Analysis
Strengths:
- Have a good budget
- Recognisable staff members who are always there to help
- Children’s area reflects a friendly and welcoming environment
- Location – Beside the school and Railway station, perfect for gathering people in
- Constant development in children’s programs (slowly progressing)
Weaknesses:
- Difficult to create enough for all ethnic groups, connection between 5 year old girls and 12 year old boys
- Minimum staff involvement for such a large project (Summer holidays)
- Not wanting too much effort
- Advertising and promotion, primarily not being able to communicate effectively throughout community towards teachers and parents
- Engagement with customers through social media or their website. They tend to use their website and social media (eg. Facebook) mainly as a promotional tool to advertise their programs (rather than focusing on the 2-way dialogue aspect
- Also communication with the parents’ on how the program works
- Parents’ commitment to help their children with the holiday programs
Opportunities:
- Create a better website that is more simplified so that it can be navigated
- Make social media platforms more active and useful for potential and current users. Make them reflect more connections with the schools and parents (eg. Instagram as a social platform, since children under the age aren’t legally allowed to be on Facebook)
- Engagment with digital media can become a great oopportunity for them to help children and parents to connect since they already supply Ipad in the library (eg. Applications – literacy games or reading)
- Create a better way to communicate with the schools, so the schools can give out clear notice to the parents
- Sponsorship
- Utilise their television – by creating a short video teaser of the upcoming summer challenge that can be played in the library. This way children can be visually attracted and become familiarised

- Distractions caused by other forms for example entertainment (computer games/movies/video games), and the event of summer holidays (often by travelling)
