Demographic Profiles - Target Audience

Examples of children from our demographic visiting the library.


5 YEAR OLD GIRL: "Jessie"
- She is a shy kid, who finds herself confused and intrigued by the library.
- She only goes when her parents take her.
- When she enters the library, she feels lost but she is also excited and has a parent to help her.
- She is interested in fairy tales and princesses, and she loves to dress up.

8 YEAR OLD BOY: "Tama"
- He is unsure about reading; he comes to the library when his parents take him but wouldn't go by himself.
- He likes reading, but his friends don't so there is social pressure on him.
- He likes a combination of visual material and reading material and he likes drawing. He is into comic books and graphic novels.
- Is an active kid, who gets very tired, so does not always have times he feels like reading.
- May need some motivation to read.

12 YEAR OLD: "Charlie"
- He/she likes reading, which is why they have come to the library.
- He/She has had an interest in  reading since they were younger, and they have always visited the library regularly, which is why they now independently come and visit it.
- He/she feels confident to find books that they enjoy, and is independent in finding them.
- Likes to be involved, be it in peer activities or in supervising other, younger readers.
