Summer Reading Challenge: Promotion

The Upper Hutt City Library currently runs a small amount of promotion for the Summer Reading Challenge. They send out forms to teachers to inform students about the Challenge, and also have fliers available at the library itself. While this method gets information out to children who inform their parents, or parents who are present at the Library, there are a number of methods of promotion that are either underutilised or completely disregarded. First and foremost is the use of social media. The Library already has a Facebook page with a few hundred likes that is updated frequently. This page could potentially be turned into a valuable platform from which to promote the Summer Reading Challenge. By engaging directly with fans of the page, the Library can promote the Challenge in ways that simply aren't possibly relying on print media alone. Another possibility is the use of the Librarys Book Bus. Getting the bus out to schools is a good way to build interest and hype for the Challenge.
