Theme Ideas

  • Detectives - could have a mystery, with clues, notes, etc. Magnifying glasses, "Cluedo". Might not interest young children.
  • Explorers - treasure hunts, adventure. Has a wide scope which is good - covers everything from Dora the Explorer to Indiana Jones. Opportunity to utilise the area, has aesthetics such as maps. Drawback in that it is very similar to last year's 'Amazing Race'.
  • Animal Safari - animals, jungle. Again explorers. Might not appeal much to older kids if the focus is on animals; could seem 'young'. Good opportunities with colour.
  • Superheroes - could focus on the idea of 'saving the library' as they are getting less and less importance in society. Lots of visual appeal and again has a wide scope; includes 'The Powerpuff Girls' as well as 'The Avengers'. Has a defining aesthetic, is flexible. Idea that 'anyone can be a hero'. Appeals to outcasts as well as mainstream. Empowering.
  • Travel - idea of travelling through time and book settings.
  • World War I - the centennial anniversary is coming up, so could provide a good focus. Could look at local history.
